In the beginning there was quiet and no ironing

In early adulthood our narrator (girl) decided she needed to be a grown up and move into an apartment with some friends.  That is where girl meets boy- thanks to girl's roommate.  Boy has the hots for some other girl and our girl is fairly indifferent to anything but getting her degree, keeping her scholarships, and going to work.  (She has a habit of being hyper-focused on her goals mixed in with anti-social awkwardness.)  So basically love at first sight it was not.  Boy and girl become friends since boy and his people are constantly hanging our at her apartment with the roommate.  The roommate always had a gaggle of male friends hanging around.  Why not hang out with them because socialization is sometimes necessary after all.  And the guys were fun to have around.  Several months later (after the other girl thing didn't work out) girl's roommate decides to be matchmaker and gets boy and girl to go out.  Boy and girl make it through the awkward first date stage.  Hanging out with the group was easier.  But this wasn't so bad since they already knew each other.  Sort of.  They decide it wasn't to awkwardly bad so what the heck lets try that again.  Many dates later boy has fallen in love with girl.  Girl has fallen in love with boy.  They overlook each other's weirdness because that is what you do when you are in love.  Or they tolerate it fairly well anyway.  Fast forward a little while and boy asks girl to marry him.  She says yes as long as he will do the dishes for eternity.  Oh and never ask her to iron his clothes.  Girl hates ironing.  A lot.  Boy and girl get married.  Girl finishes her degree.  They buy a house.  Boy finishes his degree.  All is mostly well as they stumble through those first four years of married life while learning to be grown ups together.  They figured they needed to get a handle on that grown up thing before kids came along and took over the place.  Those were the days.  It was much quieter then.  And cleaner.  Boy always had time to do the dishes.  And didn't own clothes that needed to be ironed.  Girl had more energy.  And wasn't always covered in substances of dubious origin.  But then again there were not cute misspelled notes from princess .  Or dissertations on video games from builder ninja.  So maybe those weren't the days after all.  Just the quieter early days.  That were good at the time but better (louder, messier, crazier) days were definitely to come.
